Ignition Interlock Device Eligibility in Colorado
As of January 1st, 2014, Colorado enacted new laws and requirements when it comes to eligibility of ignition interlock devices. Any individual who loses their driving privileges for one year or longer due to an alcohol related driving infraction is eligible to apply for an interlock restricted driver’s license after one month (30 days) of not driving. In scenarios where the individual has lost their driving privileges due to refusal of a blood or breath test, they must wait 2 months (60 days) before they are eligible to request an ignition interlock restricted license. Regardless of the situation, any individual who is approved for the interlock restricted license within the state of Colorado must keep the interlock installed on their vehicle for a minimum of two years.
How BAC Affects Your Ignition Interlock Eligibility in Colorado
For first time offenders who registered a BAC of 0.08 or above, there is still a required 30-day no-driving period before you are eligible for an ignition interlock restricted license in the state of Colorado. For offenders who had a BAC of 0.15 or above, Colorado law requires an ignition interlock to be installed on their vehicle for a minimum of two years. Although these are the basic guidelines for ignition interlock devices in Colorado, your situation may vary depending on previous history and other factors.
